Runners, walkers and cyclists have until Saturday, Oct. 31, to log laps on Bellevue's Eastrail for prizes in the Rails to Repeats challenge.

The event covers the trail segment south of Newcastle Beach Park. Eastrail Partners, the nonprofit that manages Eastrail, launched the do-it-yourself challenge on Monday, Oct. 12. Participants track their laps using a designated Strava segment and choose their own pace and distance. Whoever logs the most completions in their self-selected category by the deadline wins.

Registration costs $25. The fee counts as a tax-deductible donation to Eastrail Partners, according to the organization's event page.

The top finisher in each category wins an Eastrail swag kit that includes a cap, water bottle and shirt, plus a free entry to the 12Ks of Christmas race hosted by Cascade Stride, according to the event registration page. The main Eastrail Partners site lists two free entries as the prize. That race is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 13, at Marina Park in Kirkland.

Winners will be announced Nov. 1 after Eastrail Partners reviews the Local Legend Leaderboard on Strava for each category's segment. To qualify, participants must register, pay the fee, mutually follow @Eastrail Partners on Strava and keep all activities set to public. Winners have 30 days to pick up their prizes.

The October challenge builds on a June edition that took place along the Redmond Central Connector in Redmond. Eastrail Partners said participants collectively completed more than 100 laps during that month. More than 10 cyclists, runners and walkers kicked off the June challenge on its first day, with runners completing 1.3-mile laps, cyclists tackling five-mile loops and walkers taking on half-mile routes.

One June participant, Shawn A., a runner with the Eastside Runners club, spotted a trailside sign promoting the challenge and returned to the Redmond Central Connector almost daily, often completing multiple laps. Another participant, Bob A., used the challenge to rebuild confidence on his bike after a car collision in November 2025 left him recovering for months.

Participants who want to raise additional money for the trail can start their own fundraiser through Eastrail Partners. Questions can be directed to [email protected].

Registration is open at Eastrail Partners' event page.
