Furniture brand Article has opened an 8,241-square-foot showroom at The Bellevue Collection, bringing one of the company's first U.S. stores to the Eastside.
The store sits on the second level of Lincoln Square North at 700 Bellevue Way NE, 425Business reported. It features curated room displays and free interior-design services. A San Francisco location was also announced as part of the same U.S. expansion.
Article, headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, launched in 2013 as an online-only brand selling modern sofas, dining sets, bedroom and living room furniture in mid-century, Scandinavian and contemporary styles. The company said it has delivered nearly three million orders across the U.S. and Canada.
The Bellevue store is the company's third physical location overall, following a Vancouver store that opened in August 2024, according to the Downtown Bellevue Network. A Toronto location has also been announced.
Washington played a role in the site selection. The company established early warehouse operations in Seattle and said the state ranks among its top five U.S. markets for online sales.
"The West Coast has always been core to our business and represents roughly a quarter of total purchases," Aamir Baig, co-founder and CEO of Article, said in a company statement. "It's where our company is headquartered and where we built early infrastructure to support customer demand."
The expansion follows a turbulent stretch for the 13-year-old company. Retail Dive reported that Article laid off 216 employees in August 2022, about 17% of its staff, after pandemic-era demand faded.
Baig told The Globe and Mail that the company returned to profitability in 2024 with a leaner workforce of about 500, down from 1,300 in 2022.
Article's Vancouver store exceeded the company's expectations, with in-store average order values surpassing online orders by more than 20%, Article said.
The company plans to operate up to five locations, including Vancouver and Toronto, by early 2027.
