Goldman Sachs' new Bellevue AI and cloud engineering center now has a senior leader at the helm.

The firm hired Dinesh Keswani on Sept. 3 as a partner and co-head of The Core Engineering, the division overseeing Goldman's core technology infrastructure, according to a company press release. Keswani also serves as chief technology officer of the division and shares the co-head role with Gopi Parameswaran.

Before Goldman Sachs, Keswani served as chief technology and operations officer at Nomura Group.

He previously held the CTO role at HSBC and earlier leadership positions at GoDaddy and Microsoft.

The hire follows Goldman's ribbon-cutting in early September for a Bellevue engineering center that will house more than 125 employees focused on artificial intelligence and cloud projects.

It is the firm's first dedicated space for engineers in the Pacific Northwest, 425 Business reported.

Goldman Sachs has maintained a downtown Seattle office since 2001 for banking and wealth management. The Bellevue location represents a different kind of investment. Goldman Sachs said the office gives it access to the region's engineering talent and university graduates.

Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO David Solomon framed the expansion around hiring. "We are in a period of rapid technological change, but we know our people are still this firm's greatest asset," Solomon said Sept. 17.

The company employs more than 12,000 engineers globally, about one-quarter of its total workforce. The Bellevue expansion joins growth at Goldman facilities in Dallas, Salt Lake City and Warsaw.

Goldman is not the only financial giant building engineering teams in the region.

JPMorgan Chase established its Seattle Tech Center in 2018 and has grown it to about 400 employees, now anchoring a new AI infrastructure team, GeekWire reported.

Bellevue in particular has drawn a cluster of AI offices in recent months. OpenAI moved 250 employees into City Center Plaza, with room in the tower for up to 1,400.

Elon Musk's xAI took 25,000 square feet at Lincoln Square South. Crusoe opened a 7,400-square-foot space at Key Center.
