Great State Burger and King Leroy have closed at Lincoln South Food Hall in Downtown Bellevue after about two years in business.
The two restaurants shared a single space on the second floor of Lincoln Square South at 500 Bellevue Way NE. They opened together in August 2024. A sign posted outside announces that Mean Sandwich, a Seattle-based sandwich shop, plans to open in the space, according to the Downtown Bellevue Network. No opening date has been announced.
Mean Sandwich would be the third tenant in that spot since the food hall relaunched in June 2023 under Kemper Development Company.
Burbs Burgers opened there first, in August 2023. Great State Burger and King Leroy replaced it in August 2024. Now the space is turning over again.
Great State Burger, founded by restaurateur Josh Henderson, served burgers, crinkle-cut fries and onion rings with a focus on organic, locally sourced ingredients. The Lincoln South location was the chain's second in Bellevue.
Its Bellevue Square restaurant operated for nine years before closing in 2025. Henderson also founded Burbs Burgers, the previous occupant of the same food hall space.
King Leroy, a 21-and-over Northwest-style bar, offered craft cocktails, sandwiches, wings and all-day breakfast.
The Bellevue location was its second, after the original on Seventh Avenue in Seattle. Because the two concepts were connected, guests could order from either menu.
Mean Sandwich got its start in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood in 2017, created by former Momofuku cooks Kevin and Alex Pemoulié. Bon Appétit named it one of its 50 best new restaurants in America that year. Owner Dan Crookston later purchased the shop from the Pemouliés.
The Ballard location at 1510 NW Leary Way serves sandwiches, smashed burgers, fried chicken and falafel. Its signature item, The MEAN, features thick-cut griddled corned beef with shop-made yellow mustard, pickled red cabbage and fresh mint.
The food hall's tenant mix has shifted steadily since Kemper Development took over from Ascend Hospitality Group and reopened the space in June 2023. Kemper McQuaid, vice president of leasing for The Bellevue Collection, described the strategy in July when acai brand Oakberry joined the hall. "The goal was to bring in restaurants new to Bellevue that had already found popularity elsewhere in the Seattle area," McQuaid said.
Dote Coffee Bar, open since the food hall first launched in 2018, remains the hall's longest-running tenant.
