Bellevue riders on the 2 Line will need to board a bus instead of a train during late-night hours on three consecutive nights starting July 28.

A second round of closures the following week will cut service between BelRed and Downtown Redmond, affecting Spring District riders who use that segment during late hours.

Sound Transit announced the two maintenance windows on July 20 as part of summer work on the system's newest infrastructure.

July 28–30: Lake Washington crossing shut down nightly

Buses will replace 2 Line trains between South Bellevue Station and International District/Chinatown Station during late-night hours on Tuesday, July 28, Wednesday, July 29, and Thursday, July 30.

The work targets the Crosslake Connection, the segment that carries trains across Lake Washington.

Riders at South Bellevue, Wilburton, and BelRed/Spring District stations who need to reach Seattle after regular service hours will board a bus bridge instead.

Trains will continue running between Downtown Redmond and South Bellevue during the closures, and 1 Line service is unaffected.

Sound Transit has not published exact start and end times for the late-night windows.

August 4–6: BelRed to Downtown Redmond segment closed nightly

A separate closure runs Tuesday, August 4, through Thursday, August 6. During late-night hours on those three nights, buses will replace 2 Line trains between BelRed Station and Downtown Redmond for equipment replacement work.

Trains will continue operating between BelRed and Lynnwood during those closures. Again, 1 Line service is not affected.

This segment serves riders in the Spring District and Overlake neighborhoods who use the 2 Line's eastern stations.

What riders should know

The two closure windows affect different parts of the line. The July 28–30 work shuts down the Lake Washington crossing between South Bellevue and International District/Chinatown.

The August 4–6 work shuts down the segment between BelRed and Downtown Redmond. Neither closure affects daytime service.

Sound Transit described the projects as planned maintenance and equipment upgrades. No additional summer closures beyond August 6 have been announced.

The City of Bellevue's Traffic Advisories page independently confirmed the July 28–30 closure, noting that a bus bridge will provide service during the shutdown.
