Amazon will cut 53 jobs in Bellevue as part of 121 permanent layoffs across Washington state. The company filed a WARN notice Monday, Aug. 31, with the Washington State Employment Security Department. Termination dates run from Oct. 1 through Oct. 27.
The filing is Amazon's fourth round of Washington layoffs in 2026.
The largest single cluster of cuts is at the SEA106 building in Bellevue, where 49 employees were notified, GeekWire reported.
Affected roles there range from entry-level software development engineers and applied scientists to a vice president of legal and senior software managers. Four additional Bellevue-area positions bring the city's total to 53, according to MyNorthwest.
In Seattle, 35 positions across multiple downtown office buildings will be eliminated. Another 32 jobs will be cut at the BFI1 fulfillment center in Sumner. One remote Washington-based worker was also included in the filing.
Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser told GeekWire that teams "regularly review their structures to ensure they're best set up to deliver on their goals."
Amazon gave affected workers 90 days of advance notice. During that window, employees can apply for open internal transfer positions before separations become final. Staff from the state's Rapid Response team and local WorkSource centers will contact those affected.
Amazon's Bellevue footprint
Amazon is one of downtown Bellevue's largest employers. Its local workforce has grown from about 2,790 to roughly 14,300, and the company has said it expects to eventually employ about 25,000 in the city, according to the Downtown Bellevue Network.
The new filing brings Amazon's announced Washington reductions to more than 4,600 since last fall, the Downtown Bellevue Network reported. That includes a January filing that eliminated about 630 Bellevue positions as part of roughly 16,000 corporate cuts worldwide, KOMO reported.
In earlier remarks, CEO Andy Jassy told employees that generative AI is expected to automate portions of white-collar work over time, according to KOMO.
Other Bellevue tech layoffs in 2026
Amazon joins a string of employers that have filed layoff notices in Bellevue this year. Meta cut 699 Bellevue positions in May. Bungie eliminated 292 jobs at its downtown Bellevue headquarters in June.
In August alone, Visa cut 70 downtown Bellevue jobs, Salesforce announced 59 cuts across Bellevue and Seattle offices, TikTok filed to lay off 75 employees at Lincoln Square North, and T-Mobile announced 77 layoffs across Washington including Bellevue.
Even as it reduces headcount, Amazon filed permits in January 2026 to restart work on Tower 1 at Bellevue 600, the remaining West Main towers, and the 25-story Artise tower, the Downtown Bellevue Network reported. Separations for both Amazon and Visa workers begin Oct. 1.
