Bellevue 2 Line riders will hit bus bridges and single-track operations on at least 16 nights in September.

Sound Transit announced the full maintenance schedule on Monday, Aug. 31.

The agency's news release details four separate work windows across the month.

Sound Transit eliminated Route 550 bus service between Seattle and Bellevue on Saturday, Aug. 29, leaving the 2 Line as the primary transit link across Lake Washington.

Sept. 1–3 and Sept. 10: Bus bridge, South Bellevue to Overlake Village

Buses replace 2 Line trains from 11 p.m. until end of service between South Bellevue and Overlake Village stations for surge arrestor replacement. Shuttle buses will run every 10 to 15 minutes.

Trains will keep running between Downtown Redmond and Overlake Village and between South Bellevue and Lynnwood City Center during the work.

Sept. 15–17: Bus bridge, SODO to Capitol Hill

Buses replace both 1 Line and 2 Line trains during late-night hours between SODO, Judkins Park and Capitol Hill stations for monthly maintenance.

During this window, 2 Line trains will run only between Judkins Park and Downtown Redmond.

Sept. 21–25 and Sept. 28–30: Single track, Mercer Island to South Bellevue

Trains in both directions will share one track between Mercer Island and South Bellevue during late-night hours for fence installation along the alignment.

Sound Transit said schedules will not change, but riders at Mercer Island Station will board trains in both directions from the same platform.

Sept. 24–28: Single track, South Bellevue to Downtown Redmond

Trains share one track during late-night hours between South Bellevue and Downtown Redmond for rail milling.

Sound Transit describes rail milling as shaving down tracks to remove defects, which the agency said produces longer-lasting tracks and a smoother ride. No schedule changes are planned.

The September work is part of Sound Transit's monthly maintenance program, which spokesperson Henry Bendon told Seattle Transit Blog on July 28 had "dramatically cut down unplanned disruption time." The program was suspended during the FIFA World Cup and resumed the week of July 27.

Sound Transit said the planned service reductions are meant to deliver more reliable service overall. Exact start times for the late-night windows on Sept. 15–17, Sept. 21–25, Sept. 24–28 and Sept. 28–30 were not listed in the release. The Sept. 1–3 and Sept. 10 bus bridges begin at 11 p.m.
