Mercurys Coffee Co., the Woodinville-born chain with two Bellevue locations, is the title sponsor of "Cornerstone," a documentary about Seattle basketball legend Lenny Wilkens that premieres Saturday, Aug. 1, at Seattle's Egyptian Theatre.

The film, directed by T.J. Regan, co-founder of Slow Grind Media, traces the life and legacy of Wilkens, who died in November 2025 at age 88 years old.

A three-time Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, Wilkens coached the Seattle SuperSonics to the 1979 NBA championship, was a nine-time All-Star as a player, and became the first coach to reach 1,000 wins.

Mercurys joined the project after a bronze statue of Wilkens was unveiled outside Climate Pledge Arena in June 2025, according to 425 Business. The company described the sponsorship as a way to support the community and share the player's story, according to a press release.

"We're deeply grateful to Marilyn, Randy, and the entire Wilkens family for trusting us with his story," Regan said in the release. "Our aim with the film is to preserve not just what Lenny accomplished in basketball, but the character and values that defined his life."

After his coaching career ended in 2005, Wilkens returned to the Seattle area and ran his foundation for decades, with the Odessa Brown Children's Clinic in Seattle's Central District as its primary beneficiary.

The sponsorship fits a pattern for Mercurys, which founder Morgan Harris launched in 1998 as a single Woodinville drive-through. The company now operates 16 locations across Bellevue, Kirkland, Woodinville, Bothell, Redmond, Sammamish, and other cities, employing more than 250 people. In 2024, Mercurys also sponsored an H1 Unlimited hydroplane.

The Egyptian Theatre on Capitol Hill is owned by Seattle Central College, which announced plans in April to resume screenings after SIFF ended its lease in October 2025.
