A high-speed crash at a major downtown Bellevue intersection on Saturday night left multiple people injured and one driver in King County Jail, charged with vehicular assault.

The collision at 110th Avenue NE and NE 8th Street happened a block from City Hall and within walking distance of the Bellevue Downtown Station on the 2 Line, Bellevue Square, and surrounding high-rise residential towers.

The Bellevue Police Department said officers responded at approximately 9:50 p.m. on July 25, to reports of a multi-vehicle collision.

According to multiple witnesses, a 25-year-old man was traveling westbound on NE 8th Street at a high rate of speed before striking several vehicles at the intersection, near the downtown Marriott.

CCTV footage released by Bellevue Police shows a vehicle careening through the intersection, clipping one car before slamming into another. All three vehicles spin out, leaving one upside down.

No one suffered life-threatening injuries, according to the department. Some were treated at the scene by the Bellevue Fire Department; others were transported to a hospital.

Officers had already spotted the suspect

The crash unfolded while Bellevue officers were conducting a Safer Roads Initiative emphasis patrol targeting vehicles with modified exhaust systems.

During that patrol, officers spotted the suspect's vehicle, which had a loud modified muffler, near 108th Avenue NE and NE 4th Street. They were unable to locate it again until after the collision.

Police booked the 25-year-old into King County Jail on one count of vehicular assault. His name has not been released. The investigation is ongoing, and no court date has been announced.

Safer Roads Initiative context

The Bellevue Police Department launched the Safer Roads Initiative in January 2026 as a citywide enforcement strategy targeting speeding, street racing, and modified exhaust systems in response to community concerns.

By June 2026, officers were writing 380 speeding tickets per month, a 69% increase over the 225 issued in June 2025, according to data the department posted on X on Monday, July 7. Officers also issued 110% more distracted driving citations and 47% more total traffic citations that month.

The department has also partnered with regional agencies through the Eastside Safe Streets Task Force to address reckless driving across the Eastside.
