Bellevue Police will host their second annual gun exchange on Saturday, Sept. 26, giving residents a chance to anonymously turn in unwanted firearms and potentially receive a gift card in return.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 11201 NE 33rd Place, the department announced on X.

No names will be recorded.

The department said it will not conduct background checks, and participants may cover their names when showing proof of residency to event staff.

The program is open to residents of Bellevue or King County.

The exchange launched May 31, 2025, partly in response to a Jan. 10, 2025, robbery in downtown Bellevue in which investigators said suspects used stolen firearms, the Bellevue Beat Blog reported.

That inaugural event collected 87 firearms and distributed about $13,000 in gift cards funded by the Washington State Attorney General's Office.

At the 2025 exchange, each person could turn in up to 10 eligible firearms for gift cards.

Ghost guns and privately made firearms were limited to one exchange per resident. Ammunition and firearm cases were not accepted.

Handling or exchanging firearms on the event premises was prohibited, and officers enforced Washington's firearm transfer laws, according to KOMO News.

"We often say 'it all counts' in law enforcement, and the impact of Saturday's firearm exchange is paramount to our ongoing efforts to reduce gun violence and strengthen community safety through prevention," Chief Wendell Shirley said in June 2025, after the inaugural exchange.

The department has not published detailed rules for the Sept. 26 event, and it is unclear whether the same gift card amounts or eligibility requirements will apply.
