Drivers heading through downtown Bellevue will lose northbound Bellevue Way at Main Street for three straight weekends starting Oct. 31.

The City of Bellevue's traffic advisories page, updated Oct. 29, lists the closure for the weekends of Oct. 31–Nov. 1, Nov. 7–8 and Nov. 14–15. Drivers should follow signed detours. The city did not state a reason for the closures.

The City of Bellevue Transportation Department posted the updates on X, urging residents to sign up for email and text alerts.

I-90 Mercer Slough bridge work

Eastbound I-90 over the Mercer Slough, between Island Crest Way and I-405, will see lane and on/off-ramp closures for about two months. The city's advisory says the closures begin in November; the Bellevue Transportation Department's X account specified a Nov. 2 start date. The closures run from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays.

Affected segments include:

  • The right lane of eastbound I-90 between Island Crest Way on Mercer Island and I-405
  • The East Mercer Way on-ramp to eastbound I-90
  • The Bellevue Way Southeast on-ramp to eastbound I-90
  • Eastbound I-90 off-ramps to northbound and southbound I-405

The work is part of a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) project to rehabilitate nearly one mile of the eastbound I-90 Mercer Slough Bridge. Crews will install new bearing seats, modify expansion joints and install new expansion seals. WSDOT says the stretch of I-90 was first built in 1940, rebuilt in 1970, and carries over 45,000 eastbound travelers daily.

WSDOT also plans at least two overnight full closures of eastbound I-90 for the project, tentatively expected in spring 2027.

More closures ahead

Several other projects will pinch Bellevue roads in the coming weeks:

106th Avenue SE will be reduced to one lane starting Nov. 2–3 for four to six months for wall construction, part of WSDOT's I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lane Project.

Eastbound NE 12th Street between 106th Avenue NE and 108th Avenue NE closes Nov. 4 at 7 a.m. through Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. for crane setup and dismantling. The adjacent 106th Place NE from NE 12th Street south to a private alley also closes. Pedestrians will be detoured.

Southbound I-405 closes Nov. 17–18 from Coal Creek Parkway in Bellevue to N 30th Street in Renton. Drivers should use the signed detour on Coal Creek Parkway.

South Kirkland Park & Ride intersection at 108th Avenue NE and NE 37th Court/NE 38th Place and 107th Lane NE gets improvements and ADA upgrades from Nov. 9 through Feb. 7. Work runs Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Park & Ride stays open. Police officers and flaggers will direct traffic and pedestrians.
