Bellevue golfer Amanda Peng defeated top-seeded Niuniu Zhao of Woodinville 3 and 2 in the 36-hole final on Saturday, Aug. 15, to win the 70th PNGA Junior Girls' Amateur Championship at Vandal Golf Course in Moscow, Idaho.

The victory caps a breakout summer for Peng, who entered the six-day tournament as the No. 2 seed after shooting 1-under par in qualifying. She had already won the 2026 WJGA Cup with rounds of 70-69, finished third in the Washington Women's Amateur and qualified for the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship.

Peng worked through a 16-player match-play bracket to reach the final, beating Evangeline Fulton of Ridgefield, Wash., 4 and 2 in the round of 16 and advancing through the quarterfinals before dispatching Ella Wilson of Hayden, Idaho, 3 and 2 in the semifinals.

In the championship match, she faced Zhao, who carried the No. 1 seed and is ranked No. 65 in the Rolex AJGA Ranking with four World Amateur Golf Ranking contributing wins, including the 2026 Washington State Junior Amateur. Peng's 3-and-2 margin closed the match on the 34th hole.

The PNGA Junior Girls' Amateur is one of 11 major regional championships run annually by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association. Its past champions include LPGA Tour players Paige Mackenzie and Jimin Kang, and Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Famers JoAnne Gunderson Carner and Jo Ann Washam, according to ELI Sports Network.

Peng wasn't the only Bellevue player in the field. Catherine Jang also competed, falling to Ira Upadhyay of Issaquah in 19 holes during the round of 16.

The championship was held at Vandal Golf Course for the first time. The course, designed by Francis L. James and open since 1936, plays to roughly 6,700 yards through the rolling hills of Idaho's Palouse region.
