Bellevue School District is testing a new AI chatbot on bsd405.org this summer that lets families and community members ask questions about enrollment, deadlines, and programs in more than 45 languages.
The tool, called Ask AI, pulls answers directly from approved website content to handle the most common questions families ask the district's Welcome Center: deadlines, procedures, calendars, and enrollment requirements. It does not access confidential student systems or make decisions, and it does not replace human staff.
The district announced the pilot on June 11, describing it as a partnership between its Communications and Welcome Center teams.
The chatbot appears as a green circle with a conversation-bubble icon on bsd405.org.
Click it, type a question, and get a response in your preferred language.
The district said the summer test focuses on enrollment and back-to-school content, with three goals: learning what questions families ask most often, identifying gaps in website information, and evaluating how well the chatbot supports users and staff.
If the pilot meets its goals, the district plans to expand Ask AI to all individual school websites in September.
The chatbot is funded through the district's voter-approved Technology and Capital Projects Levy. The district has not disclosed the tool's specific cost.
