Bellevue residents can weigh in Oct. 5 on how the city directs federal dollars for food assistance, shelter and home repair programs.

The Bellevue Human Services Commission will hold a public hearing Monday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 450 110th Ave. NE, to collect input on housing and human services needs, according to a city notice. The hearing will be accessible both in person and online.

Feedback from the hearing will guide the commission's funding recommendations to the Bellevue City Council and shape the city's 2027 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) annual action plan.

CDBG is a federal program run by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that sends money to local governments for services serving low- and moderate-income residents.

The commission holds two public hearings each year on CDBG spending, according to the city's annual action plan. The first in this cycle took place June 1 at City Hall and also informed the city's 2027–28 budget process, according to a separate city notice.

The 2027 amount is not set. Bellevue's 2027 CDBG allocation depends on HUD's formula and the federal budget. For context, the city estimated its 2025 CDBG funding at about $1 million, split between $850,000 in entitlement funds and $150,000 in program income, according to a city request for proposals. Congress appropriated $3.3 billion nationally for CDBG in federal fiscal year 2026.

In recent program years, Bellevue has used CDBG funds for home repair through Sound Generations, King County Housing Authority and Habitat for Humanity; shelter services through PorchLight (formerly Congregations for the Homeless); and small-business assistance through organizations including Indian American Community Services, according to the city's 2024 annual action plan.

Residents who cannot attend the hearing can submit written comments to [email protected] by noon on Oct. 5.
