A proposed class-action lawsuit filed in King County Superior Court accuses The Pokémon Company International of failing to protect employees, children and visitors from hidden cameras allegedly placed in bathrooms at its Bellevue headquarters by a former executive.

The suit, filed by an anonymous plaintiff identified as Jane Doe, names the company and former director of engineering Ben Tsai, 45, as defendants. It seeks to represent all women and girls who used bathroom facilities at the company's Bellevue offices between 2017 and July 25, 2026.

Tsai was arrested in July 2026 after investigators found 89 videos recorded from the Pokémon offices, according to Polygon. Four identified subjects said they did not consent to being recorded. The criminal investigation began after a hidden camera was discovered inside a Starbucks bathroom in Kirkland, leading to a first-degree voyeurism charge in January 2026.

Prosecutors later added charges including first-degree dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct and possession charges. Tsai is being held at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent on $500,000 bail.

Tsai has pleaded not guilty.

"My client has entered and will enter pleas of not guilty to all charges," Tsai's attorney Bradley Barshis told The Seattle Times.

The civil complaint alleges the company failed to properly train, monitor or control Tsai and did not take reasonable steps to protect people using its facilities despite warning signs, according to Law Commentary. It accuses Tsai of violating Washington's Law Against Discrimination by targeting women and girls because of their sex.

Plaintiff's attorney Alex Dietz told The Seattle Times the July 25 cutoff date was chosen to cover any window in which Tsai may have still had access to the building, even though his employment ended in January 2026. Dietz said the company needs "to take steps to protect kids from these known risks."

A Pokémon Company spokesperson said the company's focus remains on the well-being of its employees and confirmed Tsai has not worked there since January 2026.

The Pokémon Company International, headquartered on NE 8th Street in Bellevue, employed roughly 2,600 people worldwide as of March 2026, with about 57% based in the United States.

The class must still be certified by the court before the case can proceed on behalf of all proposed members. No hearing date has been announced.
