Bellevue City Hall transforms into a free multicultural festival Saturday, Sept. 19, when the biennial Experience Bellevue! celebration opens its doors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event, at 450 110th Ave. N.E., caps the city's Welcoming Week programming, which has run since Sept. 14.

It is the flagship event of a weeklong series of free gatherings across East King County that connect longtime residents, newcomers, immigrants and refugees.

Activities span the building and grounds. Attendees can take salsa lessons, try tai chi, learn mahjong, join guided tours of city facilities and watch multicultural music and dance performances, according to the city's event announcement.

A City Hall scavenger hunt, KidsQuest Kid Zone, global food vendors and a storytelling showcase round out the lineup.

The Bellevue Police Department plans to demonstrate its drone program. A fire truck will also be on display.

Free coffee and pastries will be available until noon, while supplies last.

"Welcoming Week is our chance to open the doors of city government and show everyone belongs here," Mayor Mo Malakoutian said in the city's Aug. 31 Welcoming Week announcement.

He added that when longtime residents, newcomers, immigrants and refugees come together, they strengthen the bonds that make Bellevue a vibrant community.

East King County has celebrated Welcoming Week since 2016. The mayors of Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Redmond and Sammamish are set to issue a joint proclamation for the occasion.
