A free lakeside sound bath at Chism Beach Park has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Sept. 2, after wildfire smoke forced organizers to postpone the session originally set for Aug. 5.
Prana Path, a Bellevue-based mindfulness and yoga organization, will lead the guided meditation and sound bath from 7 to 8 p.m. at the waterfront park on Lake Washington. The city's event page confirmed the postponement was due to poor air quality from Eastern Washington wildfires that blanketed the Puget Sound region the week of Aug. 3.
The smoke event disrupted Bellevue's summer calendar broadly. The Bellevue Police Department canceled National Night Out at Downtown Park on Aug. 4, and King County has since escalated to a Stage 2 burn ban.
Three fast-moving fires near Spokane burned more than 7,000 acres and destroyed at least 700 structures, according to the Bellevue Reporter. Air quality cleared from the Bellevue area by Saturday, Aug. 8.
The Summer Sunset Sound Bath Series pairs singing bowls and gongs with the natural sounds of the lake at sunset. Prana Path co-facilitates the sessions with Matthew Peters, a certified gong healing practitioner and founder of Sound Alchemy in Seattle, whose work focuses on nervous system regulation and deep relaxation through sound.
Chism Beach Park sits at 9600 SE 11th St. on the shores of Lake Washington, with views of the Seattle skyline across the water. The Visit Bellevue website calls it "an ideal location to watch the sunset."
The event is funded through the city's Community Programming Fund, a grant program now in its second year that distributes up to $200,000 to organizations running free outdoor activities in Bellevue's public spaces. The sound bath is community-led and not hosted by the city.
The Sept. 2 session is free and open to the public. Attendees can reserve a spot at mypranapath.com/reserve.
