Eastside families looking for a weekend outing have a new option: a pop-rock retelling of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson story, performed by a cast ranging from age 12 through adult and backed by live musicians.

Spotlight Repertory NW, a Sammamish-based nonprofit theater company founded in 2017, is staging The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical at the Redmond Performing Arts Center, 17272 NE 104th St., through Sunday, August 2.

Three shows remain: Friday, July 31, at 7 p.m., Saturday, August 1, at 2 p.m., and Sunday, August 2, at 2 p.m.

The musical, with a score by Rob Rokicki and a book by Joe Tracz, follows Percy as he discovers he's the son of a Greek god and races across the country with friends to prevent a war among the Olympians. The show is recommended for audiences age 8 and older.

The creative team

Director Stephan Nieman leads the production, with music direction by Rebecca Gelzer, choreography by Eilish Rhoades, and fight choreography by Thomas Pierson. Gelzer returns to Spotlight Rep after playing in the band for the company's August 2025 production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Frances Garcia Hoffman, the organization's founder and executive director, has said the company's mission centers on building community through accessible performing arts. Artistic Director Marika Galvin oversees creative programming. The nonprofit is supported by 4Culture, the Sammamish Arts Commission, and ArtsFund.

Tickets and details

General admission is $35. Students and seniors pay $25. A family pack for four or more is $100. Children under 5 get in free. Tickets are available through zeffy.com.

The Redmond Performing Arts Center is about five miles from downtown Bellevue. Spotlight Rep's next production, Hello, Hollywood!, is scheduled for November 20 and 21.
