Three people were hospitalized and one driver was arrested after a six-car pileup shut down the southbound I-405 off-ramp to Coal Creek Parkway late Tuesday, June 23, blocking a key exit for Factoria and Newport Hills for more than three hours.

According to a Washington State Patrol report cited by KIRO 7, five cars were stopped in traffic on the off-ramp at milepost 10 when a sixth vehicle slammed into the back of them, triggering a chain of collisions. The three injured were transported to Overlake Medical Center. The driver of the sixth car was arrested on DUI and vehicular assault charges.

WSDOT Traffic first flagged the crash on X at 10:42 p.m. Tuesday, reporting a collision that partially blocked the ramp.

By 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, the agency posted that the ramp was fully blocked with no estimate for reopening, urging drivers to use alternate routes.

The ramp reopened around 2:15 a.m.

The suspect's name, specific charges beyond DUI and vehicular assault, and court date have not been released in available reports.
