Seattle's World Cup group stage broke records across every major category.

The city's first World Cup knockout-round match tips off Wednesday, July 1, at 1 p.m. PT when Senegal meets Belgium at Seattle Stadium.

The numbers are staggering. Sound Transit and King County Metro combined to carry more than 1.1 million passengers during just the first two match days, June 15 and June 19. Link light rail hit an all-time single-day record of 280,000 boardings on Friday, June 19, when 66,925 fans watched the U.S. beat Australia 2-0. The previous record of 220,000, set during the Seahawks Super Bowl parade earlier this year, didn't last long: three of Sound Transit's top five ridership days now belong to the World Cup.

"Friday was a momentous day for Sound Transit, with the highest ridership in our agency history," CEO Dow Constantine said in a Sound Transit release.

King County Metro buses logged 300,561 boardings on June 15 alone. Lime riders took 83,000 trips on June 19, crushing the previous city record of 59,300. The four official Seattle Fan Celebrations drew 750,000 attendees from June 15 through June 27, and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport recorded three of its busiest travel days ever, with roughly 605,000 passengers passing through June 26–29.

For Bellevue residents, the 2 Line has been the direct route to the action. The City of Bellevue Transportation Department warned that South Bellevue Park & Ride fills up fast on match days and recommended boarding at Downtown Bellevue or East Main stations.

The line runs every 8–15 minutes, delivering riders to International District/Chinatown Station, Sound Transit's preferred stop for Eastside passengers headed to the stadium.

Wednesday's Senegal-Belgium match is Seattle's fifth of six World Cup games. If the winner advances, the final Seattle match is set for Monday, July 6.
